Synopsis

A story about what happens when someone decides their own potential is not up for discussion.

Mike is a teenager with cerebral palsy growing up in a small town where expectations for him have already been set by everyone around him. His classmates, his teachers, and even some of those closest to him have decided what he can and cannot do. Mike has a different understanding of the situation. He wants to make the high school wrestling team, not as a mascot, not as an honorary member, but as a competitor who earns his place on the mat.

The film follows Mike's daily work toward that goal: the physical training, the resistance from a system that prefers accommodation over genuine inclusion, and the relationships that shift as people realize he is serious. Terrence Howard plays a former wrestling coach whose own history with the sport has left him cautious about what he asks of his athletes. RJ Mitte, who himself lives with cerebral palsy, brings a specificity to the role that no amount of research acting could replicate.

Director Brett Leonard builds the film around patience and physical detail rather than sentimentality. The wrestling sequences earn their tension because the audience has watched the preparation. The victories, when they come, feel like the result of accumulated daily effort rather than narrative convenience.

Massimiliano "Max" Musina produced the film in partnership with United Cerebral Palsy, with a percentage of profits directed to families raising children with cerebral palsy. The film received the Ruderman Seal of Authentic Representation, recognizing its commitment to casting actors with disabilities in disability roles.
